Warhammer: Age of Sigmar context and story

Age of Sigmar was born from the destruction of the World-that- Was during the End Times. If this Is your first contact with Warhammer, you have a lot to catch up on. However, Age of Sigmar Is an excellent place to start your journey into this rich and fascinating universe.

From the ashes of the original setting of Warhammer Fantasy emerged eight magical realms. These were discovered by Sigmar after he was awakened by the celestial dragon Dracothion. During the Age of Myth, Sigmar allied with other gods to establish civilisations and usher in an era of prosperity.

The age of myth ended with Chaos’s invasion and Sigmar’s defeat by Archaon the Everchosen. Retreating to Azyr, Sigmar created the Stormcast Eternal, immortal warriors tasked with reclaiming the realms. Their arrival heralded the Storm of Sigmar and the Realmgate Wars, During which they reclaimed getaways and allied with gods such as Alarielle.

Since then, the Mortal Realms have endured countless conflicts. The fourth Edition began with the Vermindoom, a devastating Skaven invasion. The Great Horned Rat’s rise as the fifth Chaos god, renewing the struggle between the four Grand Alliance.
