Description

From Introduction: This game is different from other roleplaying games you may have played before. That’s fitting because it’s based on Steven Universe, a show that’s different from other shows you’ve seen before. You will make a character and roleplay that character, but you will also get to narrate the effects of their actions, taking control of non-player characters (NPCs), your foes, and sometimes even other players’ characters. There is one player responsible for running the game (The Authority), but they, if anything, have less control over the game than the other players. The role of the Authority will be to set scenes and answer questions, occasionally giving voice to NPCs, and sometimes narrating events and actions that challenge or expand upon the Gems’ intentions. The purpose of this game is to collaboratively create a shared story that simulates an episode of Steven Universe, the series created by Rebecca Sugar for Cartoon Network. Appropriately, the focus of the game is on the characters, their relationships and feelings, their histories, and how their actions affect the world and each other, not on their power (though they are powerful) or ability to solve problems (though they do always save the day). This may be difficult at first for some players, but once you get used to taking control of the story, I hope you will find it is as liberating as it is challenging. The system is designed to guide players and help them create memorable, surprising, and authentic stories. It requires no preparation on the part of the Authority. Everything is created at the table collaboratively. It also is quick to play (60-90 minutes, plus character generation), so you can play twice in a row in about three hours, creating two short “episodes” of the show in one session.
