Game review
Minecraft has transcended from being a video game to being a present-day part of pop culture, a tool for communities and for cultural, political and social initiatives. The sandbox nature of the game has transformed it into a universe where everyone can find their safe space and a realm to play and have a good time.
Its simplicity in terms of mechanics and textures makes it accessible to everyone, regardless of their experience with video games.
Minecraft Game Playthrough
Minecraft has two main editions for different platforms and playstyles. Java Edition is exclusively for PC and is popular among mod users, custom servers and experimental snapshots. The Java Edition gives the players full control over game mechanics; however, it only allows multiplayer with other Java players and tends to be slightly more demanding on hardware.
The Bedrock Edition is designed for cross-platform play, running on Windows, consoles and mobile devices. It lacks the extensive modding potential of Java, and it offers a marketplace for skins, textures and add-ons.
Minecraft’s End Goal
Minecraft does not have a fixed storyline or clear objective like most video games. It’s a sandbox game, in which players get tools and mechanic systems, not a scripted plot.
That being said, there is in fact a “progression path” or a soft “end goal” of sorts. Players advance by upgrading tools from one source material to another, from iron to diamond, and eventually to netherite. Then they travel to the Nether to gather rare resources, from there, they can locate Strongholds in the Overworld, which leads to the End dimension.
Defeating the Ender Dragon can be a parallel to a final boss fight and marks the game’s closest equivalent to an ending.
Game modes
Minecraft has five main game modes that define a different player experience and how they interact with the world:
Survival: In this mode, Players have to gather all the materials to build, craft tools and gain experience points. There is a health, armour, hunger and oxygen bar(only when underwater), mobs can hurt the players and die, resulting in respawning in the spawn point or where they last slept. This mode supports a soft progression path from Nether to End.
Creative: The players have unlimited resources and instant building, they can also fly and can’t take damage. There are no survival mechanicals like hunger, health or oxygen displayed. This mode is mainly used for building, designing and experimenting.
Adventure: Designed for maps and custom storytelling. Players can interact with levers and buttons, and also with mobs; however, they can’t break or place blocks freely unless allowed. This mode encourages exploration and puzzle-based gameplay.
Spectator: Players can fly through blocks and observe the world, but can’t interact with blocks, entities or the inventory. In the Java edition, the players can enter the perspective of other identities and are invisible to all players and mobs except for other spectators.
Hardcore: Not technically a game mode, but rather a game mode modifier. A variant of the survival mode with the difficulty level is permanently set to “hard”. When the player dies, they must either delete the map or remain in spectator mode to prevent them from interacting with other players.
A space for everyone (Realms)
Minecraft realms is an official subscription-based server hosting service that allows players to create and manage their own private Minecraft servers. A simple way to create and manage servers without previous knowledge. In the Java Edition, realms also allow players to choose from a list of mini-games to play temporarily, as well as pre-world templates and a vast variety of maps.
