From the introduction: The standard character generation rules for Yags assume a modern setting, and though the mechanics are pretty similar in other settings, the skills and backgrounds available can be quite different in most science fiction settings. Even so, what is presented here are generic rules for science fiction, which make a number of assumptions about how technology works, and what the course of history has been. They may apply to some specific settings better than others, and GMs are encourage to make changes to fit their own settings.
