from "Cyber-Mythology: In "The Matrix Reloaded," Larry and Andy Wachowski demonstrated their setting's power to incorporate, and add to, real world mythology. Virtual reality and artificial intelligence is used to explain everything from deja vu to aliens, from angels to werewolves. Oh, and let's not forget superheroes, psychics, and wire-fu. The movie inspired me to try this cybernetic model on another set of myths that are popular with Hollywood: "Voodoo." In reality, Vodun is a complex synthesis of African, Haitian, and Christian beliefs. Though it starts with the facts, the "voodoo" described herein is extraordinarily simplified.
