Description

From publisher blurb: This adventure was written for the Spears & Spells game published by Kabouter Games. It is specifically designed as a “one-shot” adventure, providing approximately 4 hours of entertainment for players with beginning characters. Adventure Background High in the mountains of Kalvar Tel is a remote fastness where Shalazar the Plaguemaster was imprisoned. In his day — a millennium ago — Shalazar’s hordes of voracious undead swept across the land, and for a brief time he set himself up as a conquering emperor. Before he could achieve his dreams of conquest, he was betrayed, brought low by a band of adventurers, and transported in magical chains to a craggy cavern where he now rests. The guardians of Shalazar’s prison sealed the doors and departed for settled lands, certain the threat was past and their task complete. But it was not to be, for Shalazar had other plans. Shalazar’s dream was to transform himself into a lich, an undead sorcerer so powerful that death itself was no barrier to his magical might. Powerful though he was, his limited access to proper alchemical apparatus and magical ingredients, combined with an impatient urge to take revenge on his captors, caused him to make a critical error in the ritual. He gained the unlife he so keenly craved, but it was one bereft of magical power, and that drove Shalazar insane with grief and regret. It is said his notebooks remain, detailing the steps necessary to lichdom. They must be worth a king’s ransom — either to a magician who covets eternal life or to those who wish such knowledge to remain forbidden...
