There exist a conclave of rangers - Beastmasters, technically, but ones who have claimed dominion over a separate animal kingdom - who care little for those with fur or fang. They prefer instead gossamer wings, thick mandibles, venomous bites, and painful stings. They respect nature at the smallest level. After all, with no bees, wasps, flies, or ants, the trees and plants could not live, and without the plants, the animals would die. They consider theirs the most precious corner of nature, and will protect it with their lives if necessary. The Hivemaster is a variation on the Beastmaster Archetype which allows for the use of a Swarm of Insects as a Beast Companion, and includes many unique abilities depending on which insects you choose to befriend. Included are two versions of the Hivemaster, one appropriate for the basic Ranger class found in the PHB, and one appropriate for the Revised Ranger released through Unearthed Arcana.
