From the introduction: Necromancers have long sought to expand their ability to control vast numbers of undead without resorting to minions or other intermediaries. Though many minor means exist to this end, the artifact known as the Necroamaton is the ultimate answer to this endeavor. Its powers are rumored to allow the animation and control of virtual armies of undead creatures, and now a temple of Pelor has run across a necromancer who is using it!
