The Bailiff

From publisher blurb: “As we await the Black Monk’s return, I alone must assure we are present for judgment. I alone must stand vigilant and without fear. Those who attempt to escape their fate are worse than cowards and deserve no mercy.” The Bailiff’s role is to ensure each time the Black Monk calls roll, the inhabitants of Absalom are present. The Black Monk is not kept waiting. This is absolute. There are no debates about duties overriding roll call. When the Bailiff summons you, you come. Failure is punished.
