Game Info
Splinter is an abstract strategy game for two players. The object of the game is to splinter your opponent’s king into a group that is smaller than your king’s group. Play begins with 15 pieces per player (14 pawns and 1 king), arranged in a checkerboard pattern around the kings, which occupy the board's two central squares. Choose a player to go first, then continue playing, alternating turns with your opponent. On your turn, you may slide one of your pieces (including your king or any of your pawns) one square in any direction (including diagonally), pushing along any pieces (including kings or pawns of either or both colors) that lie in the way (including off the board). A splinter occurs when one or more pieces become disconnected from the original group so that there are empty squares between those pieces and the original group. Following a splinter, any groups that do not contain a king are removed from the board. If a splinter causes the kings to occupy two different groups, the game ends and the player whose king occupies the larger group wins (with pieces of both colors counting equally). If the two groups are of equal size, the player with more remaining pawns wins. If both players have an equal number of remaining pawns, the game ends in a tie. In addition, if a player’s king is pushed off the board, the game ends and the other player wins.
