Schlocky Stories is a light role playing game (RPG) set anywhere on Earth between 1950 and 1980, except that supernatural foes exist. These foes do not necessarily follow the laws of physics, temporality, or known modes of travel. It is intended to capture the feeling of the Saturday matinee monster movies. How the game master (GM)wants to run the game will depend on the type of story they wish to tell, but the more cheesy, improbable, and funny the plot line is, the better! In this RPG, ordinary people are set against improbable situations, often exacerbated by the shocked disbelief that ordinary folks would have when told these improbable tales. Whether the foes are ancient old ones, UFO aliens from Mars coming to conquer the Earth, undersea monsters freed from their lair after an atomic accident, or a mad scientist bent on taking over the world from their underground lair, the characters will have to overcome long odds and a skeptical public to save the world. Characters in Schlocky Stories are ordinary humans. They can be any race, gender, or age. Those choices are entirely up to the player. A back story is recommended but not required for each character. The GM chooses the setting, which includes the time and location the story takes place, the foes and challenges the players may face, and all other details of the story. Characters will have some core stats, described below, a profession, skills, and gear. All players will need six sided dice.
