from the introduction: In the dark corners of the world, those skilled in the dark arts rarely have any reservations in their quest for power, whether it is desecrating tombs, making dark pacts, or binding the spirits of the dead to their will. Revenants, as they are often known, are the result of one such path; spirits of the dead bound to service, or as part of some foul pact. Serving as a powerful alternative to a more traditional Familiar, Revenants serve less as a direct enhancer to their Master’s magical power and more as a potent minion, and something of a bodyguard to their master, growing in power as their Master does and unlocking more of their horrifying powers as they age and mature through their unlife – and sometimes, regain something of their past lives.
