From the introduction: The village of Makarondo is located to the North of Cordelliana, where six other similar villages are found. Unlike them, however, Makarondo is surrounded by impenetrable jungle feared by its inhabitants – dangerous animals do live there and dangerous tropical diseases can afflict those who enter.
