How to play Phasmophobia
In phasmophobia players can go solo or in a group of up to four. The game offers fast rounds packed with insane amounts of fun, thrills, and paranormal activity. At the same time, while rounds are fast-paced, the preparation and selection of the challenge are a bit more elaborate.
Enter the game and create your room
First, the player or players choose between single-player, multiplayer and training. The training mode is helpful to learn and practice how to interact with the tools and elements of the game.
When Multiplayer is selected the player can create a private or public room if they are playing with their friends, or join a preexisting public room.
Enter the Lobby
Once the game mode has been selected, players will appear in the lobby, where they can adjust the difficulty of the game:
Amateur: The recommended level for new players. The timer before the hunt will be set at 5 minutes, and the hunts will have a short duration. Sanity pills in this level restore 40% of the sanity lost during the investigation. The players will regain 50% of their lost equipment value if they die.
Intermediate: (Unlocked at level 10)The timer is set at 2 minutes before the hunt, and the hunt duration will depend on the map playing. Sanity pills will restore 35% of the sanity lost during the hunt. Players regain 25% of the value of their lost equipment if they die. The fuse box at the location will be shut off and hiding locations are unavailable.
Professional: (Unlocked at level 20)This mode has no timer set up before the hunt, the rewards prices are three times more than in amateur and the hunts have a long duration. Sanity pills restore 25% present of the sanity lost in this level, the fuse box is shut off at the beginning of the game and the objective board inside the truck will not specify if the ghost responds to everyone, or only when someone is alone. The players regain 0% of the lost equipment value if they die.
Nightmare: (Unlocked at level 30) As professional, this mode has no timer set up before the hunt starts. The rewards are four times more than in amateur. This mode has the longest hunt duration and sanity pills restore 25% of the lost sanity during the game. The fuse box, as in other modes, will be shut off and ghosts may hide one type of evidence. Inside the truck the site activity and sanity monitors will not work, and the objective board will not specify if the ghost responds to everyone or alone players. Also, the room the ghost hunts may change during the game.
Insanity: (Unlocked at level 40) No timer and the longest hunt periods. Ghosts will hide two types of evidence, while players start the game with 75% of their sanity and only restore 20% by using sanity pills. The Site Activity and Sanity Monitors inside the truck will be broken and the objective board will not specify if the ghost attacks groups or alone players. The ghost can sometimes change location during the game. The players will not regain the lost equipment if they die.
Challenge: Often based on professional mode rules, each challenge has its specific rules and map to complete it. Usually changes every seven days and it can be played as many times as desired.
Custom Modes: (Unlocked at level 50) Players can create their own challenges and adjust the hunt grace period and duration. The player speed can also be adjusted, as well as the evidence given, or the fingerprint chance and duration.
In the lobby, the players will also choose and vote for a contract to pay and select and buy the necessary equipment.
A fun fact about Phasmophobia is that the lobby has lots of mini-games that players can interact with, along with some secret features, easter eggs, and jump scares. Once the team, or player, has decided on a mode, a contract and gathered all the necessary items they can proceed to click “Start” and venture into their first haunted location.
