Each card has two sides and an optional base. They can be cut three different ways - including the base, excluding the base, or cut in half with bases. Printing on cardstock is recommended - it's solid enough to stand up without a base - then they're stackable and easier to store also. Regular paper works in a pinch but is kinda flimsy.
