Players get a glimpse into a world where the inhuman Demari have lived together in peace, that is, until portals started opening and humans started falling through. Doctor Xylos is a researcher and sort of hub of information, not all of which he understands. In this installment, he has been granted a vision about a lock and key that will help him in understanding the portals and with the help of his assistant Set requests the players bring both of these parts to him. The book is in a library in a town that the Hollow have taken over -- a faction of restless undead that hate both humans and Demari -- and will mean a confrontation with the ghoul Oshimish. The key must be earned by calming the anxious heart of the lamia Milona, who yearns for a partner and has her coils set on Harris, a human man who lives nearby on the reservation. These two tasks can be completed in either order and provide two drastically different obstacles to overcome, one more likely to require physical violence and one requiring the softer touch of diplomacy.
