From the introduction: Kara-Tur lies to the east of Faerûn, separated from the Sword Coast and Heartlands by hundreds of miles of desolate Hordelands. Trade, adventurers, and artifacts occasionally find their way to Faerûn via the route known as The Golden Way. Beyond the odd curiosity, however, little is known about these ancient cultures.
