The most advanced clockworks can be indistinguishable from living creatures until the covering is broken. Because of the weird, obsessive focus required to produce Mechanomantic clockworks, Mechanomancers cannot practice other forms of magic. The mindset needed for Mechanomancy precludes any other understanding of magic, as the scientific basis for the art contradicts the mystical teachings of other magical traditions.
