From the introduction: Bernard & Jean est une adaptation française et humoristique des aventures télévisuelles de Starsky et Hutch. User summary: Manuel du Gendarme et du Voleur ("Manual of Cops and Robbers") presents the basic rules of Advanced Bernard & Jean. After explaining the concepts behind role playing, the manual explains the character creation process. Characters have basic attributes, skills, talents, and a profession. The manual then presents the basic scenario--the cops (good guys) must hunt down and arrest the robbers (bad guys), being careful to follow the law (at least in loose interpretation). Once arrested, the robbers must be questioned to elicit a confession. The rules, especially the skills and talents, are strongly skewed to create scenes of comic humor based on slapstick behavior and untenable situations. One rule is that all the rules should be consumed with moderation. In the game, the law is enshrined in The Penal Code which has sixteen inviolate articles, which include things such as not drinking "too much", getting to work on time, saying hello to the Police Chief every morning, turning the lights off when leaving the bathroom, and looking coiffed and composed on the streets.
