From the introduction: Something happened to the World. Nobody knows why and how, but magic rose. In our written medieval history there were a lot of cloudy mentions about magic. Ninety-nine percent of them were not true. Before Middle Ages, in the high empires like Egypt, Mayan Empire or the ancient Chinese there were true magical traditions. We do not know what happened, but once rituals, symbols and magical items did not work any more. Magic was sleeping in the last few thousand years. This game starts a few years or months after the Magic rose.
