From Introduction: LOST TALES: High Fantasy is a simple-to-learn roleplaying game where players take on the roles of heroic warriors or wise wizards like those in epic fantasy tales such as J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time, and The Riftwar novels by Raymond Feist. The 1PG system assumes the players and referee already have some experience with role-playing terms and conventions. High Fantasy, or Epic Fantasy, stories are generally serious in tone and often epic in scope, dealing with themes of grand struggle against supernatural, evil forces. High Fantasy is one of the most popular subgenres of fantasy fiction. Some typical characteristics of high fantasy include fantastical elements such as elves and dwarves, magic, wizards, invented languages, quests, coming-of-age themes, and multi-volume narratives.
