Official servers shut down on 2022. Heroes of Newerth is a remake of Defence of the Ancients, an acclaimed mod for Warcraft III. In Heroes of Newerth, two teams of up to five players each take on the role of special Hero units to battle each other with the aid of waves of AI-controlled armies; each team fights each other with the aim of destroying the other team's base. Each hero starts at first level with no items at all but through out the course of the game they can gain experience and gold by defeating the enemy soldiers and heroes, with which they can obtain new powers and items and get stronger. The high competitive team-based gameplay, the depth of the strategies and a lot of useful features such as in-game Voice Over IP support, Clan tools, reconnection capabilities and periodic updates with new contents and balance fix make Heroes of Newerth one of the best tactical team based experiences on the PC market.
