Ghost of Water

Publisher's blurb: This is the 57th in an ongoing series aimed to provide the overworked DM with ready-to run encounters. Veteran caravan masters warn travelers to avoid the Ghost of Water—a section of the desert said to be haunted by the ghosts of ancient fish. While some scoff at these tales, many of those attempting the shortcut through this area are never seen again. Will the PCs survive the bite or perish in the jaws of fish long dead? This encounter was inspired by the short story “Fish Night” by Joe Lansdale. The story was animated in 2019 for Netflix’s Love, Death + Robots series. I recommend both. The lowest CR of the easiest encounter, a bone fish, is 2 but this can be modified to increase its difficulty. There is also a CR 7 encounter with a single ghost shark. The CR of this encounter can also be increased. It includes a history/background for the encounter, a map, and monster stats. The companion ZIP file contains JPEG versions of the maps (with and without grid), a Hero Lab file, the Word file of the encounter, and a PDF with character sheets for all the monsters.
