From the introduction: When GEM was first released on the internet in 1997, it was partially maintained with a small monthly email newsletter for nearly a year. Unfortunately, much of that material has been lost over time, with only the first five newsletters currently scavenged. This compilation includes the articles from those issues, with some slight updating in editing, but otherwise remain as originally appeared.
