From the Introduction: For many months two opposing armies faced each other on these fields. During this time they riddled the field with trenches and rolls of barbed wire to avoid enemy fire while approach each other’s positions. Many brave men lost their lifes trying to take and hold the trenches their opponents dug, without making any meaningful progress. And, although it becomes clear that the decision of this war will be found somewhere else, this standoff battle is far from over.
