From the introduction: Welcome to the universe of Eclipse Phase. Things are a little bit different here than what you might be used to. EP is a (mostly) hard science fiction setting where transhumanity is just starting to expand beyond the solar system after largely abandoning Earth in the wake of a terrible war with artificial super-intelligences, in favour of spreading themselves out across colonies and habitats throughout the solar system.
