User summary: Doom: The Next Chapter adapts Id Software's DOOM and DOOM II "first person shooter" video games to a tabletop roleplaying game. The major design goal of the RPG system was to retain the "look and feel" of the video game. Nevertheless, the game is not wholly derivative and presents several innovations including greatly expanded history, backstory, and milieu. Mechanically, the game is a familiar RPG with characters having attributes and skills and engaging in "dungeon crawl" adventures in a series of scenes pitting characters against monsters while trying to accomplish goals.
