From the introduction: Defenders of the Union is a role-playing game in which you play the part of a member of the feared secret police of a future USSR, a man or women sent (along with their colleagues) to root out dissent and treason within a community. Direct orders from the Supreme Soviet instruct you to use any and all methods and means to root out enemies of the people and restore harmony and correct thought.
