From the introduction: Long ago a young man Grife Franke; from a small hamlet that was located near a large number of mines, ruins, and entries into a popular subterranean habitat; grew up in awe of the adventurers that constantly paraded thru. On young Franke’s eighth birthday he sauntered out to the common area and placed a notice in the public square. He so desperately wanted to be trained in the way of adventurers. Two years went by and still no one took him up on his offer. In fact all this time he’d been working under the guidance of the Inn master Rolk. On his tenth birthday Grife packed up his belongings, hugged his only friend goodbye and began a journey to the tower of High Sorcery to learn the magic arts.
