City of the Century is a stock/economic game based in Chicago during the Industrial Age. During the game, players invest in five different industries: Manufacturing, Railroads, Livestock, Grain, and Real Estate. These industries increase in profit through the course of the game by the players performing “key actions” while running the city of Chicago. Each time an industry increases in profit, the player who performed the key action can either draw an Investment Card or play an Investment Card from their hand. Each turn, players can perform two of the available five actions: Ship, Manufacturing, Produce, Process, and Construction. Through these actions, players manipulate the seven major goods that were vital to Chicago becoming the heart of the Industrial Revolution: Steel, Coal, Livestock, Grain, Lumber, Brick, and Stone. At the end of the game, The winner is determined by the player with the most points afforded by the Investment Cards and the resulting bonuses.
