From the introduction: When the various realms of the universe had materialised and the gods had created the first races, a mysterious entity made his/her presence known. This entity was called The Grinning God. He or She didn't have a dominion over something, and the other gods couldn't communicate with him/her. Basically no one knew if he/she was even a god or some other creature predating gods.
