From the introduction: In every generation there is a chosen one. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer. Or, you know... maybe not? It's not like these old stories are based on hard facts or science or anything. There's not really any reason to send a lone girl off into the world to protect everyone else from monsters. Sounds a little unfair to her, huh?
