From the back of the book: Långt upp i norr, långt bort från Versailles praktfulla palats och intrigerande ädlingar, ligger Ytterby – en by som under många sekel har haft fred. Det är en by som alltid har lyckats undgå krig, svält och olycka, fram tills nu ... Det är nådens år 1676, och snapphanarna plågar Ytterbys befolkning. Samtidigt drabbas traktens barnfamiljer av en tragedi: någon stjäl deras barn. Är det snapphanarna som ligger bakom även detta? Kanske är det trollen, såsom det viskas om bland de vidskepliga invånarna? Eller är det helt enkelt en del av kronans planer för att smutskasta dansken? Rough translation: Far up in the north, far from the mighty halls and palaces of Versailles and the scheming nobles, lies Ytterby - a village in which it has been peace for centuries. It is a village spared from war, draught and mishaps, until now ... It is the year of our Lord 1676, and the Snapphanes are a scourge for the people of Ytterby. Meanwhile the families with children have suffered a tragedy: someone is stealing the children. Are the Snapphanes behind this as well? Maybe it is the trolls, as the superstitious villagers are whispering among themselves? Or is it just part of the Swedish crown's plans for giving the Danish a bad name?
