In the shadows Western and Eastern spies vie for control of information -- documents, telemetry, moles, anything and everything that could tip the scales past their delicate balancing point and lead to hegemony. Under the harsh glare of television cameras and reporter scrutiny, the two sides fight a second proxy war at the Chess World Championships. The stress is palpable and it won’t be long before somebody cracks. Add to that the exotic, freewheeling, anything goes, and usually has a price, atmosphere of Bangkok and the situation is ripe for a fiasco.
