From the introduction: The Altar of Tymora was not always a holy place. Centuries ago it was the sight of a cult worshiping Asmodeus. Devils congregated here to try and bring their leader back to the mortal plane. The demons, not wanting such a powerful precense in this plane launched an attack on the cult. The stuggle ended in the Demons striking a deal with the Devils.
