Their small cargo vessel, bound for Marybelle, has just made starrise in an area of deep space approximately 3 1/2 light years from the Argos system. The heroes are prepared to wait a few days while their star drive recharges, when they receive a weak distress signal. Through the static, they hear the sound of a little girl's voice, crying for help.
