Battlefield 6: The Most Anticipated Autumn Launch

This past 10th of October, the most anticipated Battlefield 6 launched, marking a triumphant return to the stage from the iconic franchise. A lunch most awaited since the release of the beta version of the game and early access last August.

The game brings back some beloved mechanics and features like large-scale battles and class systems. The increased environmental destruction and visual improvements  were some of the most appreciated features. However, not everything went smoothly. 

The launch of Battlefield 6

The Battlefield 6 hype train is something that has been steadily building since the release of the Early Access launch during the 7th and 8th of August and the open beta launch later from the 9th to the 17th of August. 

According to Steam data around 1.7 million users pre-ordered the game before launch and over  500,000 players enjoyed  the open beta version of the game. Fans of the franchise praised the return of some classic features of the game like the class system and were surprised with the new added features like the kinesthetic combat.

Many used praised the beta access as it felt like a proper Battlefield experience, a large-scale wargame with coordinated class-based teamwork.

On the day of the worldwide release of battlefield 6 millions of users were waiting to finally play the whole game. In a worldwide launch across PC and consoles in the EA app, or Steam among others. Only in steam, the first few hours after the launch registered over  700,000 players.

The player’s demand to enter the game was such that it put EA’s infrastructure on a strain. Many players reported issues, login errors and long queues.

However, despite the technical issues during launch, battlefield 6 managed to achieve a highly successful release. EA responded quickly with fixes  and compensation, such as XP boosts and battle pass rewards. With a record-breaking number of players, the launch reaffirmed the franchise’s comeback after four years  一after the launch of Battlefield 2042 in late 2021一 proving that the fan trust had been restored.

The last addition to a 21-year-old franchise

The Battlefield franchise has redefined in over two decades what large-scale multiplayer warfare video games are. With its first release in 2002 of Battlefield 1942, its iconic mixture of infantry combat and vehicular combat, dynamic environments and maps, the series has won over the hearts of its player base.

Battlefield has gone from World War II, to modern day conflicts and even futuristic scenarios and alternative universes.

Battlefield 6: What’s new and what’s being brought back. 

Brought back mechanics and features

Classic Class System

The iconic system returns with Recon, Assault, Support and Engineer. Allowing the player to define their chosen role on the battlefield. These four roles have been enhanced to empower players to push the team towards victory. Each class with specific gadgets and signature weapons and training.

Large-Scale Multiplayer mode

Battlefield 6 launched with a package of multiplayer modes and maps from Egypt to Gibraltar and the streets of New York. With multiple combat zones per maps, tailored specific modes making each fight a completely different player experience.

Moreover, the video game returns with fan favourite multiplayer modes, including conquest, breakthrough and rush modes. A fast-paced, first-person shooter that includes Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination and King of the hill.

Destructible environments

Building upon the legacy of previous titles, Battlefield 6 offers a fully interactive battlefield where nearly everything can be destroyed or altered in real time. From leveling entire buildings in urban combat zones to blowing holes in the landscape, the destructible environments feature creates an unpredictable setting that keeps players engaged.

Portal returns

The creative toolset that lets players redraw the lines of war. More powerful and streamlined than in previous games. Which gives the players brand new tools to create completely unique content called Community Experiences.

Post-launch support will continue to add modes,maps and weapons to the game.

New features and mechanics

Kinesthetic Combat System

A system designed to make player movement and combat feel more fluid. Enhances the way characters physically reach the environment and enemy actions. This system simulates very closely natural human movements and more precise and quicker reflexes. This system also impacts how players experience recoil,combat encounters, aiming and weapon handling.

Escalation mod

A tug-of-war over three control zones where teams capture and erase objectives pushing the front line back and forth until one team owns three control zones at once. Quick rotation, team coordination and strategic play are key to maintaining control and winning the tug-of-war.

Battle Royale Mode

This new mode features up to 100 players divided into squads of four, battling across a large map with diverse environments like cities, military bases and beaches. The mode includes destructible environments and dynamic gameplay elements such as swimming and underwater combat. A large- scale experience for battlefield fans and new players.

Crossplay

Finally! Players across PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, EA App), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can now join the same matches. This feature is enabled by default, facilitating bigger multiplayer experiences.
