Speculation continues as fans eagerly wait to find out which of the iconic characters from the video game saga will take on the role of the series’ protagonist. However, it came as a surprise that Netflix has chosen to expand the Assassin’s creed lore with a brand-new story, rather than adapting one of the existing narratives.
With more than 230 million copies sold, the Assassin’s cree franchise is one of the best-selling series in video game history. It has captivatied players with its rich storytelling, immersive lore, and stunning recreations of entire cities and historical events.
Into The Animus, What We Know About The New Assassin’s Creed Series
In 2020 Ubisoft, parent company of Assassin’s Creed, partnered with Netflix to produce three separate assassins creed series, one an animated program, the second being an anime series and the third one a live-action production.
After various exits in previous years and with the rumors that the series was put on hold, Netflix clarified that the project was in active development. New showrunners were announced, with plans pointing towards a single season release.
In July 2025, the series was officially unveiled at Netflix’s Tudum event, promising an epic, character driven story. A New story that will explore identity, faith, and human connection.

A New Setting in Ancient Rome
The Assassin’s Creed franchise has explored a wide range of historically rich settings. From ancient Egypt and Greece to Renaissance Italy, the French Revolution and Feudal Japan, and now for the first time, venturing into Ancient Rome. The year 64 AD the Great Fire of Rome took place, which is believed to have begun near the Circus Maximus and burned for several days. Rome burned while the Emperor Nero was away in Antium. The disaster gave rise to the enduring phrase “Nero fiddled while Rome burned”.
This date places the new Assassin’s Creed storyline in the gap between Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The series will be filmed entirely in Italy, with extensive ancient Rome set, including a replica of the Roman Forum. Filming will also take place across the Lazio region and in Tuscany.

What We Want To See In Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed Series
- Hidden Blade: The use of hidden blades in this new series would be cannon. As the first time the blade appears in the Assassin’s Creed storyline is on Odyssey‘s dlc: Legacy of The First Blade.
- The iconic Assassin’s A symbol. That actually is the mark of an eagle skull, appeared first in Assassin’s creed Origins. So it will also be canon in Netflix’s adaptation
- The Assassin’s hooded outfit would also be cannon, as we’ve seen previous, more rudimentary, versions in Origins and Odyssey.
- References to the series iconic stealth gameplay, including classic infiltration missions, navigating heavily guarded locations, and eliminating targets without being detected.
- Climbing and parkour, signature mechanics of the video game series.
- Standing on Viewpoints, the high advantage points used in the earlier Assassin’s Creed titles, to synchronize maps and reveal locations.

Speculations, Predictions, And Future Possibilities
For many fans of the iconic video game series, the limited information available still leaves many questions unanswered. If you’re also a fan of this series, you’ve no doubt asked yourself these very questions. Here are some of our speculations.
Are we going to see a “creed” or an isolated storyline like in Odyssey?

As Netflix’s series will take place in 64 AD, after the events of Egypt, we can speculate that the Creed already exists. Following what Bayek and Aya planned in Origins in “Last of the Medjay”. As Bayek says:
“Egypt has fallen. Greece also. And Rome will fall too. All will fall to the Creed. Yet no one will know”
And Aya replies:
“When we assassinate, we assassinate only those who deserve it. The few souls who try to control us… but they will never know who we are. Cold, calculated poets of the kill.”
It will be reasonable to think that the creed has also moved and expanded to Rome. Therefore there is a possibility of the series showing a creed emerging or already established in Rome. This will leave room to multiple protagonists, like in posterior titles such as Assassin’s Creed Syndicate during Victorian England (1868).
Who Would The Villains Be?

Following the video games, the enemy has organised itself in cults or templars around positions of power. Infiltrating the government and even taking some of those political positions. As the adaptation is confirmed to take place in 64 AD, there will be no templars in this storyline.
It is interesting to speculate about a cult as we saw in Odyssey with the Cult of Kosmos. Due to the similarities between both religions.
Will The Story Include The Isu?

During the fall of the Isu, after the Great Catastrophe, their powerful creations, also known as Pieces of Eden, were scattered across the world. Some were hidden, lost in destroyed temples and vaults, while others were taken by surviving Isu or discovered later by early humans.
With the information we have from the video games, there is no confirmed Isu artefact in Rome in 64 AD. Before Ezio enters the Vault of the First Civilization beneath the Vatican in Assassins Creed II. With all said, as there is no confirmation, an Isu artifact could be placed in this story and then moved after to fit the narrative.
Moreover, the Isu created humans as a slave species, and also experimented with hybridisation and control systems. The possibility of the Isu being mentioned or added to the storyline, would also give the viewers and newcomers to the saga the explanation for the Assassin’s extraordinary abilities.
We will have to wait and see which direction the Assassin’s Creed Netflix adaptation will take. After all, nothing is true. Everything is permitted.
The Animus Is Now Up And Running
With the confirmation of this adaptation into a series, there is limited time to speed-run the video games before its release. If you want to revisit the saga before watching this new storyline, you should play Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Origins to stay aligned with the timeline. It is also worth playing the original game featuring Altaïr, as well as the Ezio trilogy, so you can catch as many potential Easter Eggs as possible.
