Arkham Horror is a series of cooperative adventure board games inspired in the lovecraft universe. It is easily one of the most famous board games. It has been reprinted several times and has several expansions to continue the experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The first edition of Arkham Horror is set in 1926, during the height of the Roaring Twenties.Beneath the celebrations of post-war America, the city of Arkham faces a growing supernatural threat as the Ancient Once lurk beyond space and time, waiting for the opportunity to enter our world.\u00a0Up to six players take the roles of investigators who must work together to protect Arkham. The second edition of the game, released in 2005. One of the most\u00a0significant changes was the introduction of Great Old Ones as final antagonists. This way, when or if the investigators fail to close the portals before the ancient one awakens, they have to face it in a final battle. Dunwich Horror (2006)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Dunwich Horror<\/a> expands the action during the game beyond the city and into the town of Dunwich, which is suffering from its own supernatural disturbances. Beyond a new location, this expansion also adds spell and item cards along with additional tokens, four ancient ones, and eight investigators.\u00a0This is the first expansion that adds a new game board, allowing investigators to travel between Arkham and Dunwich, and explore its additional locations and encounters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kingsport Horror (2008)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kingsport Horror<\/a> expands the game to the dream-haunted coastal city where the barriers between dimensions have become dangerously thin. The expansion also adds new investigator cards, items, skills, spells and allies. Its most notable mechanic addition is the Guardian mechanics, which are powerful entities that aid investigators against the Ancient Ones. They work similar to heralds, but benefit the players rather than inflicting harmful effects.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Innsmouth Horror (2009)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Investigate the decaying fishing village of Innsmouth Horror<\/a> where an ancient pact has left the town overrun by sinister creatures. The expansion adds new items,spells and ally cards, Ancient One card, 32 spawn monsters. This expansion adds Personal Stories, a new mechanic for a stronger role-playing element by giving investigators individual objectives and consequences. Another new addition is Innsmouth Look, which represents investigators gradually transforming into Deep Ones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miskatonic Horror (2011)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Miskatonik Horror<\/a> takes the investigators to the halls of the\u00a0Miskatonic University and was published as the eight and final expansion of the game. Unlike earlier expansions, it does not introduce a new town scenario. Instead, it acts as an expansion to the previous sets, adding cards and components that enhance and expand\u00a0their existing content. It introduces the institution’s mechanic, representing organisations that offer assistance to the investigators in exchange for a price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curse of the Dark Pharaoh (2006)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The first published expansion for the Arkham Horror board game. In its first edition, Curse of the Dark Pharaoh<\/a> was a cards-only expansion. This expansion included the standard 76 investor cards, offering players additional items,90 ancient One cards, spells and allies. The expansion also introduced rules for simulating the arrival of a traveling museum exhibition in Arkham. This addition sets a new mechanic that allows certain locations to become off-limits to investigators. This makes an already challenging game even harder to win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The revised edition<\/a> of this expansion updated the content into line with later expansions. In addition, it includes a sheet that allows the Dark Pharaoh himself to be played as a herald. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The King in Yellow (2007)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The King in Yellow<\/a>, introduced a theatrical horror theme to Arkham horror, with the King and his influence driving the town towards madness. The expansion added 76 investor cards, 90 ancient One cards and the Riot Spawn Monster. This expansion introduces the herald mechanic, allowing servants of the Great Old One to aid their masters. The king in Yellows serves itself as the set\u2019s Herald. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Black Goat of the Woods (2008)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A dangerous cult has arrived in Arkham, The Black Goat of the Woods<\/a> will force investigators to confront dark ritual, monsters and the corrupting influence of the Ancient One\u2019s Herald. It adds 90 investor cards, 88 ancient one cards, a new herald, and additional monster tokens to the game. The expansion also adds Cult encounters and investigative corruption. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lurker at the Threshold (2010)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Lurker at the Threshold<\/a> follows private detective Devlin Macky after he accidentally unleashes a supernatural catastrophe by reading from the Necronomicon. As monstrous creatures overrun Innsport and the gates between worlds begin to open, Macky and a colourful group of allies must find a way to stop the return of Cthulhu, Yog-Sothoth and Azathoth.\u00a0The story for this expansion draws heavily on the wider Cthulhu Mythos, featuring numerous locations, creatures and characters from Lovacraft\u2019s works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means, the players must decide how far they are willing to push their luck without succumbing to madness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
